Where is Mazda Originally From?

Mazda Motor Corporation, which was founded in 1920 as Toyo Cork Kogyo Co., Ltd. in Hiroshima, Japan, changed its name to Toyo Kogyo Co. in 1927 before adopting its current moniker. Before debuting the Mazdago, a combination truck and motorcycle with three wheels, the company specialized in producing industrial tools. Mazda’s international headquarters are still in Hiroshima, Japan. Even back then, the name of the small trike manufactured was a prelude to the exciting future for the company. The name Mazdago is fitting, considering the direction the automaker ultimately went in crafting attention-grabbing models like the Mazda MX-5 Miata.

Where Is Mazda Manufactured?

New factories and assembly lines were needed to keep up with Mazda’s rising global sales. The first factory outside of Japan for Mazda was constructed in Colombia.

The most current of its plants was established in Alabama, USA, in 2021. Mazda and Toyota, the other big name in Japanese cars, have partnered up to build this factory.

Is Mazda Made In America?

After all these years, where is Mazda manufactured now? Is Mazda made in America?

A Mazda factory stood in Flat Rock, Michigan, from 1987 until 2012. The Mazda MX-6, Mazda 626, and Mazda 6 were the first three models produced in this plant. Mazda discontinued production at the plant in 2012, and Ford Motor Company eventually bought out the remaining stake.

Mazda’s future production in the United States was in doubt after the Michigan facility was shut down. However, this was far from the end for the resilient brand.
